BIO + CV

Ana Garcia-Pineda (1982) is an artist, performer and a bunch of atoms who got a Spanish passport by being born in Sabadell, peripheral city of Barcelona. G-P holds degrees from the Fine Arts University of Barcelona and Universität der Künste Berlin as well as post graduate degrees from Goldsmiths College London and FdM Barcelona. She has exhibited in Argentina, Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Paraguay, Spain and the US.

I grew up in a peripheral and migrant neighbourhood of Sabadell. At the age of 3, I discovered that the language of cartoons was also spoken by human. My teacher did. I learnt Catalan.

I ask myself a lot of questions. Questions like: Who is the asshole of the knife that separates the better halves? If I plug all my holes, will I hear my inner self? I collect data, connect and build narratives that offer perspectives on how things work. I invent machines, machines to turn atoms into glitter or make Alzheimer’s only affect our sad memories.

I have made individual exhibitions (such as “Fiction is a reality to happen” in Espai13 Fundació Miró, Barcelona) and participated in groups (Dia Art Foundation, New York), biennials (Aboa Vetus Ars Nova Museum, Turku), festivals of video and poetry. I have been able to carry out my work thanks to scholarships (BcnProducció08), prizes (Generations 2019 or Best Catalan Artist Fundació Corominas, 2015) and art residencies (Fonderie Darling, Montreal 2018). I have written a book that I just reissued (“More Machines and Machines” 2008-2018) and performed several times; the last one: on March 31 in Paris (“Lines: fiction, guidance, identity & repression” AKA “Straight lineIAlive line, Sleeping line_Deadline, bending lines & (), __ =…”), in the Drawing Now19 performance program.

Although the most important thing is that, although the cells that formed me ten years ago no longer exist, here I continue and my mission is the same: to save the world.

PD: I have to admit that sometimes I wanted to destroy it and that, at times, I just have to understand something. Whatever the things and things are.
